The Afrifresh Group was founded in South Africa in 1992 as an import business to supply
retailers with "out of season" fruit, and currently is headed-up by Chris Conradie, one
of the original founders.

Following the deregulation of the fruit export industry in 1997, the Group took advantage of the opportunity to start exporting South African fruit all over the world. In 1999 one of the very first mergers in the export fruit industry took place, when Afrifresh merged with Sunpride, an established fruit export company run by Roy Fine, and owned by the Fine Family who have a heritage in fruit trading going back to 1908.

Within a short time the enlarged Afrifresh Group became one of the
top 5 South African fruit exporters
, specializing in Grapes and Citrus.

From already 1998 the Group started investing in its own production and today has
numerous farms and packhouses, in excess of 20,000 hectares, all over South Africa,
ensuring a consistent supply of quality product.

The current board of directors are: Dumisani Tabata (Chairman), Chris Conradie (CEO), Roy Fine, Lungiso Dyosi, Grant McGregor, Sipho Ngwema, Piet Nel, Bernie Denton, Harry Loebenstein, Andre De Klerk, Lance Chandler, and Paul Searson (Company Secretary).
